LINDA M. SMITH, OWNER, PIANO/KEYBOARD INSTRUCTOR, KINDERMUSIK* EDUCATOR

Linda began her music education at the piano, at the age of 6.  She continued piano instruction and also began to sing in choirs and choral groups through high school and college and began to lead music groups in several churches in the Phoenix area for over 10 years.  Her teaching experience began in the early 1990's as a private piano instructor and a General Music Teacher for 1st - 8th grades, at a local private school.  During her time at Grand Canyon University, she accumulated over 30 credit hours from music related courses and began teaching in Buckeye, Az, as an extension of the GCU Preparatory Program.  In 2007, she began her training and licensing process to become a Licensed Kindermusik* Educator.  Later in 2007, she accepted a teaching position at the Arts Academy @ Estrella Mountain (a PLC Charter School) which turned into a full-time General Music teacher in 2008.  Having an extensive prior background in business as a licensed Realtor in the state of Arizona for 20+ years and building her business through strong customer service skills and high ethical business principles, she, along with 2 partners, opened their own Realty Executives branch office in Avondale in the late 1990's.  After having enjoyed a long standing and successful career as a Realtor, Linda made the decision to make a complete career change and opened the Brio Music Learning Studio in April of 2008.  As of May, 2010, Brio Music is her only full time pursuit not only as the Owner, but also teaching Piano/Keyboard lessons and Kindermusik* classes.

BRIAN PALMERINO, GUITAR, BASS GUITAR & PIANO/KEYBOARD INSTRUCTOR
Brian has been living in the Phoenix area since 2002 when he moved from his hometown of Groveland, Massachusetts.  Growing up, his first exposure to music was a pile of Beatles tapes that he played along with, on a cheap drum set in his cousin's attic.  When he was 9 years old, his father Michael, taught him how to strum and switch chords on the guitar by playing classic rock and folk songs.  Also at the age of 9, Brian began taking piano lessons with Jeannette Lambert in Atkinson, NH which he continued through high school.  Piano lessons taught him how to read music and also gave him an important foundation of music theory.  In middle school, he sought a guitar teacher on the recommendation of his piano teacher and began taking lessons with George Fortunato at Haverhill Music Centre in Haverhill, MA.  George opened Brian's eyes to the world of endless possibilities on the instrument, turning him onto Jazz, Fusion, Funk  and R & B styles.  Brian's technique and ear would mature through lessons with George.  The most important thing he learned was to develop a deep love for the instrument and play with feeling and soul.  In his junior year of high school, Brian won the Louis Armstrong Jazz award in the Pentucket High School Jazz Band.  Brian  has since continued to pursue improvement in his playing through gigging, performing, practicing, teaching and of course, jamming with other excellent 
TERESA KARTLER,  INSTRUCTOR,
VOICE & PIANO/KEYBOARD
Teresa has music in her blood, having professional musicians in her family for generations.  Teresa has been performing publicly since the age of 6.  As a child, she studied piano for five years.  She participated in her High School Band and In her teenage years, she studied voice under Deborah Bronner, a level five speech-level singing clinician.  Teresa has recorded on various albums, has performed in 10+ musicals, and currently directs a children's choir of 50 students.  She also tours the United States as a member of Mass Anointing Choir and sings background vocals for Dove Award performer David Cobb.  Teresa has been teaching voice and piano lessons at the Brio Music Learning Studio since March of 2009.
musicians.  He now gigs as much as he can in a variety of settings and locations around Phoenix on guitar, bass and keyboards.  He has been teaching for 4 years and has been teaching at the Brio Music Learning Studio since May, 2009.  Teaching provides him the opportunity to share his love for music and Brian often incorporates improvising with his students in a spirit of mutual inspiration as one of his teaching techniques.  Some of his favorite artists and influences are Eric Clapton, Phish, The Beatles, Wes Montgomery, George Benson and Jimi Hendrix.  Brian teaches his students popular songs, music theory, technique, reading skills, music styles and improvising.
JASON FAY, INSTRUCTOR

Jason earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music from ASU in 2006.  Jason is a  qualified and active Instructor of the "Elements Music" a program which is brought into public and private schools for piano/keyboard instruction for grades K-8.  Jason has 20 years of playing/performing experience and has been teaching in the Phoenix area for the last several years.  Percussion genres include:  concert, rock, latin and jazz.   Jason has been teaching piano and drums/percussion at the Brio Music Learning Studio since May of 2009.  A brilliant instructor full of creativity and energy!
KEITH ARMSTRONG, INSTRUCTOR PERCUSSION/DRUMS, BRASS, WOODWIND, STRINGS (VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO), PIANO/KEYBOARD

Keith has an extensive educational background in music and is highly credentialed with his Bachelor of Science in Music Education, K-12 Endorsement (Grand Canyon University in 1981) and his Master of Arts (Northern Arizona University in 1990) along with over 50 hours of continuing education.  He also received his Band Instrument Repair Technician Certificate in 1993.  Keith has taught in the public school system for over 28 years in high school and elementary grade levels as Band Director and Percussion Instructor.  He is currently teaching at the Arts Academy @ Estrella Mountain (a PLC Charter School) as General Music

Teacher for grades 4-8, and is the Band Director there as well.  Keith has an emphasis on performance woven into his teaching style and has a great track record for getting his students "performance ready".  He has been teaching at the
Brio Music Learning Studio since June of 2008.
DAVID ANDERSON, RETAIL/STUDIO MANAGER & INSTRUCTOR:  ACOUSTIC & ELECTRIC GUITAR,
PIANO/KEYBOARD & VOCAL
David is a multi-instrumentalist,
singer and songwriter.  He has
played and taught music pro-
fessionally for over 20 years.
Originally from the
Washington D.C. area,
he studied classical and
jazz piano with Carole Neal,
and classical and jazz guitar
with Hank Bryant.  He won a
Washington Area Music Award for an original instrumental composition.  He has performed in numerous and varied musical situations, including The University of Maryland Jazz Orchestra, East Coast touring show band "Tough Act To Follow", and his own original group "LUMA", which performed at venues all over the Washington D.C. area.  In 1999, David received a Certificate of Audio Engineering from The Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences in Tempe, Arizona.  He then produced and performed as a studio musician on a variety of regional and national projects, including advertisements for The United Way, Chevrolet and Pringles.  In 2000, he produced, performed and co-engineered on a recording of his own original music entitled "ANDERSON & LILL".  David has been involved in Community Education by teaching Beginning and Intermedate level classes at Community Colleges at Central New Mexico Community College as well as right here at Estrella Mountain Community College.  David has extensive background and experience in rock, jazz, blues and country musical styles.  His musical influences include such artists as diverse as Train, Maroon 5, Steely Dan, Vince Gill, Led Zeppelin, Billy Joel, Larry Carlton, and Eric Johnson.  David currently performs as a freelance guitarist and keyboardist in the Phoenix metro area.  He is also currently in pre-production for a new full-length CD of more original music.
